HEILBRONN, April 20, 2016
The entry list for the third edition of the €64,000 Neckar Cup, held at the Tennis Club Heilbronn Trappensee in Heilbronn from 7 to 15 May 2016 was released on Tuesday evening.
Ricardas Berankis, currently ranked on a career high 62nd position, leads the official acceptance list. The 25-year-old from Lithuania captured his first title of the season, lifting his sixth Challenger trophy in Gwangju last week. He will be joined by fellow-top-100-players Horacio Zeballos from Argentina and Daniel Munoz de la Nava from Spain.
Dustin Brown, Jan-Lennard Struff, Daniel Brands as well as Mischa Zverev, older brother of defending champion Alexander Zverev, will fly the German flag during the week.
With Yoshihito Nishioka, who made it into the semi-finals last year, and Andrey Rublev ATP’s next generation will also appear in Heilbronn. US-American hopes Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul are currently among the tournament’s main draw alternates. Tournament director Metehan Cebeci has already awarded one wild card to Florian Mayer. The 32-year-old German has started his comeback at the ATP 250 event in Bucharest this week, the place where he captured his sole tour title in 2011. Mayer, however, lost his opening match in the qualifying to Farrukh Dustov in straight sets.
The Neckar Cup is taking place the same week as the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome and has to compete with three other ATP Challenger events held in Bordeaux, Seoul and Samarkand.
