AMBATO/STARNBERG, October 20, 2022
Facundo Bagnis has booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Ambato La Gran Ciudad tournament. The No. 2 -seed of the $53,120 clay-court event in Ecuador edged past Nikola Milojevic of Serbia 7-6(6), 6-4 on Wednesday.
Bagnis struck eight aces and won 81 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 38 mintues.
“The match started in cloudy conditions with some drizzle. Then the sun came out and it bothered me a little bit during the serve,” said Bagnis. “There are many things, but you have to stay calm, leave them aside because I cannot control them, and well, do your best.”
The World No. 114, who is bidding for his second ATP Challenger title of the season following his triumph in Pereira, Colombia, will next take on fellow Argentine and No. 5 seed Santiago Rodriguez Taverna, who defeated his compatriot Juan Bautista Otegui 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes.
