Two Spaniards have joined the stage of the last eight at the inaugural Copa Faulcombridge Ciudad de Valencia as wild card entry Carlos Lopez Montagud and qualifier Javier Barranco Cosano both booked their spots in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Lopez Montagud defeated Italian qualifier Gian Marco Moroni 6-1, 6-3. The 22-year-old from Valencia capitalized on six of his 11 break-point chances to advance in one hour and 34 minutes. Lopez Montagud will next take on his compatriot Pablo Llamas Ruiz.
Barranco Cosano had to go the distance to overcome Andrea Vavassori of Italy 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(2). The World No. 305 broke his opponent’s serve three times, won five points less than his opponent but secured victory in two hours and 53 minutes. Up next for Barranco Cosano will be 2021 French Open Boys’ singles champion Luca van Assche.
In other action, Ukrainian alternate Oleksii Krutykh beat Italian Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 23 minutes and will play Andrea Pellegrino of Italy in the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour 80 clay-court event. Adrian Andreev battled past Russian qualifier Ivan Gakhov 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and will face Nikola Milojevic of Serbia.
