While the European Open in Antwerp, an ATP Tour 250-level indoor hardcourt event, annually attracts big-name players – its headline attractions and past champions have included Andy Murray, Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime – this year it has attracted its first Top-5 talent: Stefanos Tsitsipas.
On Thursday, the European Open revealed it had received a commitment from the current World No. 5 from Greece, who was a recent quarterfinalist at the French Open. The 24-year-old Greek has been a finalist twice this season, at the Australian Open and Barcelona, as well as a semifinalist at the United Cup and Rome. A nine-time titlist on the ATP Tour — including two Monte-Carlo crowns – Tsitsipas has amassed a 29-9 win-loss record this season.
