BERLIN, June 16, 2023
Local hero Sabine Lisicki has received a wild card into the main draw of the bett1open presented by ecotrans Group. This was announced by the organizers of the WTA 500 grass-court tournament on Friday.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in my hometown, in my home club,” said World No. 292 Lisicki, who advanced to the 2013 final of Wimbledon. Now, a decade later, her fire of enthusiasm has not died. “I love tennis, and I love playing on grass. I want to show myself as strong as possible here in Berlin in front of my home crowd.”
The bett1open will take place from June 17 to 25 and offers a total prize money of US-$850,000. The world’s strongest players will compete on the grass at the Steffi Graf Stadium of the LTTC Rot-Weiß e. V. in Grunewald, Berlin. Defending champion Ons Jabeur, reigning WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia, Olympic Gold medalist Belinda Bencic as well as two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova have confirmed their participation, joining US-American superstar Coco Gauff.
