Frenchman Alexandre Muller clinched the title of the Emilia-Romagna Tennis Cup. The No. 3 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 clay-court event held at the TC President in Parma, Italy, defeated home favourite Francesco Maestrelli 6-1, 6-4 in Saturday’s singles final.

Muller booked his spot in the championship match with wins in the bottom half of the draw over Spanish qualifier Alex Marti Pujolras as well as Italians Federico Gaio, Alessandro Giannessi and Stefano Travaglia.

The World No. 103 saved the only break point he faced in the final and broke his rival’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 11 minutes.

“It was a tough week, but one that I will always remember. For me this is the most important success of my career so far, I am in the middle of a really good season and I hope not to stop here,” said Muller, who claimed his second career title on the ATP Challenger Tour after Blois in France last year.

“Parma is magnificent not only for the tennis, but also for the food and for the quality of the organisation,” he concluded.

Muller earned €19,650 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.
