New-look Mubadala Citi DC Open Is Rich In Talent

The new-look Mubadala Citi DC Open, the only combined ATP-WTA 500-level event in the world, will be rich in talent when the 54th edition of the tournament takes place in Washington, D.C. later this month. It will feature eight of the world’s Top 10 players, three Grand Slam champions, four former World No. 1’s, five past D.C. winners and 14 American players.

On Thursday, the Mubadala Citi DC Open revealed its preliminary main draw player fields for the 2023 tournament that will take place from July 29 to August 6 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park. The event, which recently combined with the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic to create the Mubadala Citi DC Open, is the fifth largest professional tennis event in the United States.

Among the men’s players who are entered include: World No. 3 and 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, World No. 9 Taylor Fritz, World No. 10 and Washington, D.C.-native Frances Tiafoe, World No. 12 Felix Auger-Aliassime, World No. 24 Grigor Dimitrov, three-time major champ and Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray, and defending D.C. champion Nick Kyrgios.

The women’s entrants include: World No. 4 and 2019 D.C. champ Jessica Pegula, World No. 5 Caroline Garcia, World No. 7 Coco Gauff, World No. 10 Daria Kasatkina, former World No. 1 and two-time major titlist Victoria Azarenka, former World Top 5 Elina Svitolina and defending D.C. champion Liudmila Samsonova.

“We have a fantastic deep field of players lined up to compete in the 2023 Mubadala Citi DC Open. The draw showcases Grand Slam champions, former World No. 1’s, Olympic gold medalists, Top 10 players and some of the most exciting fan favorites in the game,” said Mark Ein, chairman of the Mubadala Citi DC Open. “In less than a month, the world’s best players will be in DC for one of the biggest events of the summer. With record ticket sales to date, an incredible line-up of athletes and compelling new fan activations on-site, it’s going to be another memorable tournament.”

Among the new players announced today are: Hubert Hurkacz, Sebastian Korda, Alexander Bublik, Yoshihito Nishioka, Denis Shapovalov, Daniel Evans, Christopher Eubanks, J.J. Wolf and Mikael Ymer, as well as Maria Sakkari, Belinda Bencic, Madison Keys and Karolina Pliskova.

The Mubadala Citi DC Open’s ATP 500 event will feature 48 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The new WTA 500 tournament will feature 32 singles competitors and 16 doubles teams.
