Moro Canas Advances To Semi-Finals At Open Pozoblanco

Alejandro Moro Canas of Spain continued his fine run of form this week on home soil at the €73,000 Open Ciudad Pozoblanco by reaching the semi-final of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 hard-court event. The World No. 284 beat Frenchman Dan Added 6-4, 6-3 on Friday afternoon.

Moro Canas sent down four aces and won 70 per cent of his first-service points to advance in one hour and 34 minutes. The 22-year-old Madrid native is now seeking his first Challenger final, taking on top seed Hugo Grenier of France. The World No. 135 edged out his sixth-seeded compatriot Antoine Escoffier by the same scoreline. Their encounter lasted one minute longer, one hour and 35 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, World No. 250 Terence Atmane of France fought past 18-year-old Lithuanian wild card entry Edas Butvilas 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4. The 21-year-old withstood eight aces and broke his rival’s serve one time to secure victory in two hours and 14 minutes.

Up next for Atmane will be Juan Pablo Ficovich of Argentina, who edged out Israeli qualifier Daniel Cukierman 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in one hour and 58 minutes.
