ROTTERDAM, October 30, 2023
The winner of the 2021 ABN AMRO Open, Andrey Rublev will seek his second Rotterdam title in 2024. With the current World No. 5, the third top-five player has been announced. He is the third former champion to be in action at the Rotterdam Ahoy Arena. The 51st edition will take place from 10 to 18 February 2024.
Tournament director Richard Krajicek said: “With Andrey Rublev we have a new title contender. Like Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime, he has shown he can perform in Rotterdam. It is nice to see that we have already have 3 former champions in our draw. Rublev is proving to be in top form again this year. Also considering his qualification for the ATP Finals last weekend.”
Rublev in Rotterdam
In addition to his triumph in 2021, the year the 26-year-old Rublev made three more appearances at the ABN AMRO Open. On his debut in 2018, he reached the quarterfinals, losing to Grigor Dimitrov. In 2020 he repeated this, this time with Filip Krajinovic as his opponent in the quarterfinals. In 2021, he won the final from Marton Fucsovics, having previously defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andy Murray, among others. In 2022, he reached the semifinals, in which tournament winner Felix Auger-Aliassime proved too strong.
‘’Andrey Rublev won probably the most bizarre edition in the history of the tournament. In 2021, without an audience and in almost total silence due to COVID-19. In 2023 he unfortunately had to miss the tournament, but I am sure he is looking forward to come back in a full Rotterdam Ahoy,” said Richard Krajicek.
