The semi-final at the XIX Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil are set. Daniel Elahi Galan from Colombia, Alejandro Tabilo from Chile, Felipe Meligeni Alves from Brazil, and Roman Burruchaga from Argentina will be the protagonists on Saturday.

As expected, Friday’s quarterfinal clash between the top seed Federico Coria from Argentina and fifth seed Tabilo lived up to all expectations. It was an intense three-set battle that extended for two hours and 23 minutes, with the Chilean emerging victorious 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4.

“I’m happy to advance here. It’s a tournament I really like, and I feel very happy here. It’s good because it’s been a tough season for me, losing many close matches in three tight sets. I’m happy to secure a victory like this to boost my confidence, which I’ve been lacking a bit. It’s important for the tournament I’m having and to recover a bit for tomorrow’s match,” said Tabilo.

His opponent for a spot in the final of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event in Ecuador will be World No. 243 Burruchaga, who won the all-Argentinian battle against Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 after two hours and 35 minutes.

“I talk to him every day,” said Burruchaga of his father Jorge,1986 FIFA World Cup champion. “He always wishes me luck, advises me to play calmly because I know what I have to do. He’s always supporting me from wherever he is, with a message or a call, and we’re in constant contact.”

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Galan beat Hugo Dellien of Bolivia 6-1, 6-2 in one hour and 16 minutes. The wild card entry will take on Meligeni Alves, who benefited from the retirement of third-seeded Argentine Facundo Diaz Acosta. The 25-year-old Campinas native was leading 6-1, 3-1 when Diaz Acosta was forced to stop playing due to a leg left injury.
