Top seed Daniel Masur emerged as the champion at the inaugural Cadolzburg Open ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event held on carpet inside the Tennis Center Schwadermühle, Germany, claiming victory in a thrilling final. Facing Michael Agwi, who represents Ireland but grew up in Berlin, Masur secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 triumph on Sunday.

Both players were strong on their own service games, except for the eighth game where Masur, 29, capitalized on three break opportunities to take the lead. The German then served to clinch the set. The second set was more fiercely contested, with shifts in momentum. The 20-year-old Agwi secured an early break to lead 2-0 but faced an immediate re-break. The crucial moment in the second set occurred with Agwi leading 4-3, converting his fourth break chance and subsequently served out to level the sets.

The third set remained tense, with both players having opportunities for a break until the middle of the set. At 5-4, Masur capitalized on good returns and, after an error from his opponent, secured a match point. With a net approach, the German forced the decisive mistake from Agwi, securing a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory after two hours and 15 minutes.

“It was an incredibly close match, decided by a small detail. In the last return game, I had the ball on the racket twice, and suddenly, as it often happens on carpet, there was the match point, which I fortunately could use,” said Masur. “I’m thrilled to have won the title in the first tournament of the season. I always feel particularly comfortable at tournaments in Germany and can often deliver my best performance there.”

In the doubles competition, the Irish Simon Carr and his Russian partner Kirill Kivattsev secured the title by defeating the Finnish-German pair Patrick Kaukovalta and Tim Rühl 6-4, 6-4 in 79 minutes.
