MUNICH, March 19, 2024

Home favourite Alexander Zverev and two-time defending champion Holger Rune of Denmark will headline this year’s BMW Open, taking place at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos in Munich, April 13 to 21, with six players ranked inside Top 50 and three former winners on the entry list of the ATP 250 tournament.

Forty-one weeks as World No. 1, three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals, and 46 singles titles. In what is likely to be his final season, Andy Murray will return to the Bavarian capital city. In 2015, the 36-year-old Briton lifted the trophy at the 100th edition of the tournament, winning a Monday final against Philipp Kohlschreiber to secure his very first ATP career title on clay.

After Austria’s Dominic Thiem, Italian Matteo Berrettini received the second wild card into the main draw of the clay-court event. The former World No. 6 returned to the circuit after a six-month injury layoff by reaching last week’s final of the Arizona Tennis Classsic ATP Challenger event in Phoenix. Berrettini, 27, has also very positive memories of Munich. In 2019, he reached the final of the BMW Open, followed by seven tour titles and the 2021 Wimbledon final.

Canadian youngster Felix Auger-Aliassime will make his tournament debut in Munich. The 23-year-old protege of Toni Nadal has already reached a career-high ranking of World No. 6 and has claimed five titles in the past two years. Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, who finished runner-up to Holger Rune twice in the last two editions, is always considered one of the favorites in Munich.

Leading the home challenge is Alexander Zverev. The two-time BMW Open champion will be joined in Munich by his compatriots Dominik Koepfer, Yannick Hanfmann and Jan-Lennard Struff.

“The spectators can look forward to a fantastic mix of current top stars, big names, emerging talents, and of course, the best German players. I am very pleased that we can welcome these players for the last edition of the tournament as part of the 250 series, who have shaped the BMW Open over the past decade,” says tournament director Patrik Kühnen.
