SETUBAL/STARNBERG, June 10, 2024
Antoine Escoffier took the title of the Setúbal Open, an ITF World Tennis Tour M25 tournament organized by the Clube de Ténis de Setúbal with support from the Portuguese Tennis Federation and the Setúbal City Council, for the ninth consecutive year.
In Sunday’s final, the World No. 231 from France overcame 338th-ranked Swiss Antoine Bellier in three sets, rallying 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-2 in two hours and 30 minutes.
This match marked their third meeting but the first in the last three years. Escoffier was just one point away from his first loss to Bellier but managed to save a match point in the tie-break before dominating the third set to secure the victory.
The 32-year-old Frenchman, a former World No. 132, celebrated his 14th career title on the ITF Pro Circuit, his second in Portugal, having previously won an ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event in Sintra in 2019, and his first in over two years.
Escoffier received the champion’s trophy from Pedro Pina, the Councilor for Culture and Sports of the Setúbal City Council, who attended the ceremony along with Fernando Alves, President of the Setúbal Tennis Association, and the club’s management.
