The ATP Challenger Tour clay-court swing in Italy continues this week with the Serena Wines 1881 – Acqua Maniva Tennis Cup being held at the Eurosporting Cordenons in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Two Austrians headlined Tuesday’s first-round action, as alternate Sandro Kopp knocked off No. 2 seed US-American Nicolas Moreno de Alboran 7-6(6), 6-2. The World No. 354 capitalized on three of his seven break-point chances to advance in one hour and 48 minutes. Up next for Kopp will be Carlos Taberner from Spain.

Meanwhile, Joel Schwaerzler fought past No. 6 seed Nerman Fatic from Bosnia and Herzegovina 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. The 18-year-old former Junior World No. 1 struck three aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in two hours and 12 minutes. Schwaerzler will next play Italian wild card entry Riccardo Bonadio.
