The World No. 55 will seek his third consecutive title at the Copa Sevilla on Saturday, which would tie the best winning streaks in the tournament’s history, held by Pedro Osete and Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
“It would mean a lot to me (to match that record). I’ve been excited about this tournament for many years, and I really enjoy this week here. It’s practically like being at home, close to Granada, with my family and all the people who support me so much here,” said Carballes Baena.
In the second semi-final, Daniel Altmaier fought past Alexander Ritschard from Switzerland 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 7-6(4). The 89th-ranked German struck 12 aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after three hours and 18 minutes.
Altmaier is seeking his eighth ATP Challenger Tour career title, his first since the Sarasota Open in April last year.
