Emerson Jones of Australia claimed the title of the 2024 Perpetual NSW Open held at Sydney Olympic Park, lifting her maiden trophy on the Pro Circuit.
Sunday’s singles final of the ITF World Tennis Tour W75 tournament was a hard-fought battle, with wild card entry Jones triumphing over her compatriot Taylah Preston in a match that ended 6-4, 7-6(3).
The 16-year-old Junior World No. 1 showcased remarkable resilience, especially in the second set where she fought back to take the tiebreak. This victory not only highlights her talent but also sets the stage for her future in the sport.
“It was a tough final and Taylah played amazing,” Jones admitted.
“I have played some of my best tennis this week and I am really proud of what I have accomplished.
“I couldn’t have done it without my team and know my family are watching at home in Queensland,” Jones said.
Cabrera/Preston claim doubles title
In a thrilling doubles final, the Australian duo of Lizette Cabrera and Taylah Preston secured the title against the top-seeded team of Destanee Aiava and Maddison Inglis of Australia with a scoreline of 6-1, 3-6, 10-8.
The match was a rollercoaster, with Cabrera and Preston dominating early, but the experience of Aiava and Inglis brought the contest back to life in the second set. Ultimately, the decisive match tiebreak showcased the determination of Cabrera and Preston, who held their nerve to clinch the championship.
