Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz made tennis history by becoming the first German duo to win the doubles title at the Nitto ATP Finals in the 55-year history of the tournament.

Seeded eighth in Turin, Krawietz and Puetz defeated the top-seeded team of Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador and Mate Pavic of Croatia 7-6(5), 7-6(6) in a hard-fought final lasting one hour and 38 minutes. Their semifinal appearance was already a landmark achievement, as no German doubles team had ever reached that stage of the Finals before.

This year marked their first qualification as a team for the season-ending finale featuring the top eight doubles pairs. The 32-year-old Krawietz and 36-year-old Puetz had an outstanding season, including winning the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg, reaching the final at the US Open, and securing four victories in Davis Cup competition, which helped Germany advance to the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga.

German Tennis Federation (DTB) President Dietloff von Arnim, who traveled from Malaga to Turin specifically for the final, congratulated Krawietz and Puetz on their historic victory: “The triumph of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz at the ATP Finals in Turin is a fantastic achievement and a historic moment for German tennis. Throughout the tournament, they demonstrated their immense experience and quality, earning their first world championship title. We are proud to have ‘KraPuetz’ as the current best doubles team in the world representing Germany.”

Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann also praised their accomplishment: “The victory in Turin is the culmination of their successful collaboration, which they began on the ATP Tour last year. Despite setbacks along the way, they persevered and have now been rewarded. We hope they can continue their winning streak at the Davis Cup Finals.”

Following their victory, Krawietz and Puetz will travel to Malaga, where they are expected to arrive on Monday evening. Germany’s Davis Cup team will face Canada on Wednesday, November 22, in a bid to reach the semifinals of the Davis Cup Finals.
