In the penultimate week of the 2024 ATP Challenger Tour season, Fabio Fognini has clinched his first title of the year. The 37-year-old Italian lifted the trophy of the inaugural II Montemar Challenger ENE Construccion.

Fognini, top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event, outlasted Lukas Neumayer of Austria 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final. The World No. 84 converted six of his 13 break-point chances and won 51 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 18 minutes.

“I didn’t play my best tennis today but the most important thing is that I won the match. I am very happy,” Fognini said afterwards. “I am still competing and I am thankful because I have the opportunity to play with these great guys. They are playing really fast, running around the court with great shots. I am happy with my performance and of course about winning the tournament.”

By winning his eighth Challenger career title, Fognini pocketed € 10,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.

The first edition of the Montemar Challenger ENE Construccion was hosted by the Club Atletico Montemar in Alicante, a vibrant coastal city in southeastern Spain, which is renowned for its Mediterranean charm, historic landmarks, and sunny beaches. Situated on the Costa Blanca, the city offers a blend of modern urban life and rich cultural heritage.
