Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera and Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan will face off in the final of the second edition of the Punta del Este Open.
Barrios Vera, the seventh seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event in Uruguay, opened the semi-final day with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Spain’s Carlos Taberner in one hour and 23 minutes.
“It was an intense match, but fortunately, I managed to close it out quicker than my earlier rounds, where I played nearly three hours on consecutive days,” said Barrios Vera. “The final against Galan will be very tough. We’ve known each other for a long time and have faced each other several times,” he added.
Meanwhile, Galan secured his spot in the final with a 6-3, 6-3 win over US-American Emilio Nava in just 72 minutes.
“Even though I haven’t lost a set in the tournament, I had tough matches, particularly in the second round against Facundo Mena and in the quarterfinals against Gonzalo Bueno,” said the third-seeded Colombian.
Barrios Vera and Galan have faced each other four times, with the Chilean leading their head-to-head record 3-1.
