KOBLENZ/STARNBERG, January 27, 2025

Daniel Masur became the first player to secure a match win in the main draw of the 2025 Koblenz Open, defeating Italy’s Samuel Vincent Ruggeri 6-4, 6-1 on Monday.

“I’m very happy to have won. It’s a tough field where every opponent is a challenge,” said Masur, who represented Germany at the United Cup in Australia earlier this year. The 30-year-old also expressed gratitude for the support of the local crowd, saying, “It’s always great to play in Germany when you spend most of the year traveling.”

For 17-year-old Max Schönhaus, the challenge posed by Ivan Gakhov proved too much, with the young German player falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. However, Schönhaus’s tournament is far from over. Tomorrow, he will team up with Masur in the doubles competition, facing the US-American-Polish duo Patrik Thrac and Szymon Walkow. Elsewhere, fifth-seeded Frenchman Ugo Blanchet outlasted Michael Geerts from Belgium 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the day’s final match.

Broska to face Dedura-Palomero on Wednesday

Tuesday will see top seed Henri Squire and other German players Justin Engel, Diego Dedura-Palomero, Max Rehberg, and Rudolf Molleker begin their campaigns. Squire is set to face Bulgarian lucky loser Dimitar Kuzmanov.

Engel will take on Swiss qualifier Mika Brunold in the fourth match on Center Court, while Dedura-Palomero’s match against home favorite Florian Broska is scheduled for Wednesday.

Tuesday’s opening match on Center Court at the EPG Arena will feature Rehberg taking on Ukraine’s Oleg Prihodko.
