KOBLENZ/STARNBERG, February 1, 2025
Switzerland’s Jakub Paul and Dutchman David Pel have been crowned doubles champions of the Koblenz Open 2025. Their title was confirmed after their final opponents, Geoffrey Blancaneaux of France and Joshua Paris from Great Britain were forced to withdraw due to an injury sustained by Paris. Blancaneaux and Paris had secured their spot in the final on Friday after defeating German wild card entrants Patrick Zahraj and Tim Rühl.
For Paul, this marks his third career title on the ATP Challenger Tour, while Pel extends his impressive doubles record with his 21st Challenger career trophy. When Pel won his 20th title last October in Roanne, France, Paul was on the opposing side of the net and had to settle for second place. The 25-year-old Swiss player now has a chance to reach the singles final later on Saturday as he faces Ugo Blanchet in the semi-finals.
Pel and Paul delivered a dominant performance throughout the tournament. They started their campaign with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory over the French duo Antoine Escoffier and Luca Sanchez in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, they secured another straight-sets win against the third-seeded pairing of Vasil Kirkov from the United States and Mick Veldheer of the Netherlands. Their strong form continued in the semis, where they overpowered Denys Molchanov from Ukraine and Czech Michael Vrbensky with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Pel and Paul split €7,220 in prize money and collected 100 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
