Top seed Jacob Fearnley secured a straight-sets win over Russian qualifier Evgeny Karlovskiy 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals of the Terega Open Pau-Pyrenees. The 23-year-old British will now face Slovakian Lukas Klein. Fearnley converted five of his 14 break-point opportunities to advance in one hour and 30 minutes.
In the bottom half of the draw, Raphael Collignon of Belgium cruised past Russian lucky loser Alexey Vatutin 6-0, 6-1. The No. 2 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 indoor hard-court event won 65 per cent of the total points played to succeed in only 60 minutes. Up next for Collignon will be Filip Misolic of Austria.
After ousting Luca Van Assche in the previous round, the impressive Murphy Cassone continued his stellar run by defeating seventh seed Alexander Blockx of Belgium in commanding fashion 6-2, 6-2. The 22-year-old US-American will next take on Arthur Bouquier, the last remaining French player in the singles draw.
Gasquet withdraws due to injury
Later in the afternoon, an emotional ceremony was held in honor of Richard Gasquet, who had hoped to step onto the Center Court under different circumstances. A thigh injury forced the 16-time ATP Tour champion to withdraw from the tournament. Amid roaring applause, a heartfelt tribute was delivered by Jeremy Chardy, and Gasquet was presented with a custom bottle of wine bearing his image.
