MUNICH, March 31, 2025
In just twelve days, the world’s top tennis players will gather at the BMW Open by Bitpanda held at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos. For the first time, the tournament will be staged as an ATP 500 event, elevating the formerly known International Tennis Championships of Bavaria to one of the 30 biggest tournaments in the world.
Before the official start on April 12, when the new tournament category and a brand-new Center Court will be unveiled, a special moment took place in Munich on Monday. At Marienplatz, Dr. Christian Scharpf, Head of the Department of Labor and Economy, Dr. Eva Nase and Dr. Marc Tenbücken, board members of MTTC Iphitos, and Emanuel Fraitzl, CEO of MTTC Iphitos, presented a remarkable art installation: the new “Spectacular.”
Standing 3.5 meters tall and weighing 800 kilograms, the impressive sculpture will welcome the international tennis world in the heart of the city for the next three weeks. Featuring two oversized tennis rackets connected by a tennis ball and a large heart, the artwork symbolizes unity through sport, partnership, team spirit, and a shared passion for tennis.
With world-class tennis returning to Munich, the “Spectacular” represents the connection between sports, tennis, and event enthusiasts in the city.
This artistic project is a collaboration between the Department of Labor and Economy, MTTC Iphitos as the host and license holder, and event organizer MMP Event.
