GRAN CANARIA/STARNBERG, April 14, 2025
The ITF W100 DISA Gran Canaria, an ITF World Tennis Tour event, held annually at the Club Conde Jackson Tennis Maspalomas in the south of Gran Canaria, has been recognized for the first time in its history by the International Tennis Federation for its outstanding organizational quality throughout its trajectory.
This distinction honors the tournament’s continuity, professionalism, and contribution to the development of global professional women’s tennis. It cements the event’s position within the ITF calendar and adds even more appeal for players seeking world-class competition.
Part of the ITF’s Tournament Recognition Program, which highlights events that excel in organization, infrastructure, international impact, and sustainability, this year’s accolade went to the Gran Canaria-based tournament—chosen from among more than 1,200 ITF tournaments held worldwide.
This recognition comes alongside another major milestone: Gran Canaria’s prominent feature in the ITF World Tennis Tour 2025 promotional video, which is being shared across ITF platforms globally. The tournament has steadily grown in prominence since its beginnings in 2016 as a W10 event with $10,000 in prize money, evolving into a W100, the highest tier on the ITF Women’s Circuit. According to the ITF, the event has played a key role in the careers of rising stars like Alexandra Eala, who experienced and excellent run at this year’s Miami Open WTA 1000 event, as well as former World No. 2 Paula Badosa.
“We’re thrilled to receive this award, which recognizes the hard work our entire team puts in each year to deliver this tournament and to promote the Canary Islands—especially Gran Canaria—as a hub for professional women’s tennis,” said tournament director Oti Santana. “We’re incredibly proud of our W100 DISA Gran Canaria, and this international recognition motivates us to keep improving.”
The tournament has also generated significant media visibility for its loyal public and private sponsors, whose ongoing support has been instrumental to its success. Additionally, the award stands as a meaningful recognition for the tournament’s founding promoters, the Conde Jackson brothers, who have played a pivotal role in the advancement of tennis in Spain.
But the tournament’s impact extends well beyond the court. The W100 DISA Gran Canaria has sparked growing international interest in Maspalomas as a destination for active tourism linked to tennis. In recent years, the tournament’s official website has seen a notable increase in inquiries from fans and professional athletes interested in training year-round at the southern Gran Canaria club—drawn by its ideal climate and world-class facilities.
This unique blend of sports, active tourism, and organizational excellence has firmly established the W100 DISA Gran Canaria and the Club Conde Jackson Tennis Maspalomas as global references within the world of professional women’s tennis.
