Jankovic Reaches Quarterfinals In Mallorca

The bottom half of the draw was in second round action at the €250,000 WTA Mallorca Open on Wednesday with Jelena Jankovic rallying back from a bagel down to overcome Elise Mertens 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. The second seed from Serbia sent down five aces, winning 60% of her first service points to advance in two hours and seven minutes. The highest remaining ranked player in the draw will next take on Romanian qualifier Sorana Cirstea, who beat Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-4.

Anastasija Sevastova knocked out the tournament’s number eight Eugenie Bouchard 6-3, 6-3. The the 26-year-old from Latvia saved three of the five break points she faced, converting five of her own to gain her first victory over the Canadian in the pair’s second tour meeting after one hour and 12 minutes. Sevastova will next face Mariana Duque-Marino, who dismissed Sabine Lisicki 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the evening match. The 26-year-old from Colombia withstood 11 aces, hitting seven of her own to seal victory in one hour and 52 minutes.
