The second tournament of the 54th edition of the Istarska Rivijera – the oldest international tennis event series in Croatia – concluded on Sunday in Rovinj with a victory by 28-year-old Russian Kirill Kivattsev. The world No. 580 and No. 5 seed defeated 26-year-old third-seeded Italian Tommaso Compagnucci 6-2, 6-3 in the singles final of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 clay-court event.

The world No. 430 had a chance in Rovinj to win titles in both competitions after his doubles triumph on Saturday, but just like at the first tournament in Porec, where he was beaten in the final by Mili Poljicak, he fell one step short of the singles trophy. Kivattsev became only the second Russian to have his name added to the list of singles champions at the Istarska Rivijera, and the first in more than 25 years, following Denis Merinov in Ičići 1999.

“I’m very happy to have won this tournament. It was a pleasure to play here, the organization is excellent. Next week I will also play in Opatija and hope for the best possible result,” said the Rovinj champion Kivattsev.

Along with Compagnucci and the 2023 Opatija winner, Ukrainian Viacheslav Bielinskyi, he will be among the top favorites for the title at the final tournament of this year’s Istarska Rivijera.
