CAMPINAS/STARNBERG, April 11, 2026
The Copa Internacional de Tenis ATP Challenger 75 event in Campinas is heading into its crucial stages, and Brazil is guaranteed a place in the final after Pedro Boscardin and Gustavo Heide both advanced to the semi-finals with impressive performances on Friday.
Boscardin continued the best run of his young career, defeating second seed Alvaro Guillen Meza of Ecuador 6-2, 6-4 with a composed and consistent display. The result marks his second semi-final of the season and is set to push him close to World No. 226 in the ATP Rankings—likely enough to secure a spot in the Roland Garros qualifying draw.
“I was very solid throughout the match, with just a small lapse in the second set, but I’m happy with this semi-final,” Boscardin said. Staying focused on the present, he added: “I’m not thinking about Roland Garros yet. I said I would only focus on that after Campinas. My job now is to rest and think about tomorrow.”
Joining him in the last four is compatriot Gustavo Heide, who overcame Argentina’s Guido Justo 6-3, 6-4. Heide’s aggressive mindset proved decisive, much to the delight of the home crowd, which has backed the Brazilian players all week.
“I think my strength today was being more aggressive. Whenever I played like that, I had the advantage,” Heide explained. “I started a bit tense, but then loosened up. I dropped slightly in the second set, but stayed mentally strong.”
The upcoming semi-final between Boscardin and Heide adds another chapter to a long-standing rivalry between the two, who have faced each other since childhood. Boscardin currently leads their professional head-to-head 3-2.
“It’s always tough—we’ve known each other since we were 11,” Heide said. “But it’s also great to have two Brazilians in the semi-finals.”
Top seed Gonzalo Bueno of Peru also secured his place in the final four, battling past Argentina’s Hernan Casanova in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(5). Despite being the tournament favorite, Bueno remains grounded.
“I was surprised to be the top seed here—happy, but it’s just a number, no pressure,” he said. “I need to keep working hard to win. It’s my second semi-final of the year, but I still have a lot to improve.”
Bueno will face Argentina’s Lautaro Midon, who defeated former champion Juan Pablo Varillas 7-6(6), 6-4.
