ROME/STARNBERG, April 14, 2026

The Internazionali BNL d’Italia continue to evolve while staying true to their rich heritage, as the 2026 edition promises a new chapter for one of the most important events on the tennis calendar. Set against the unique backdrop of the Foro Italico in Rome, this year’s tournament, taking place from April 28 to May 17, reflects a clear vision: blending tradition with a forward-looking, modern identity focused on fans, players and the overall experience.

Presented by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation in collaboration with Sport e Salute and supported by key institutional partners, the tournament is undergoing a significant transformation rather than a simple renewal. At the heart of this evolution is a comprehensive redevelopment of the Foro Italico, turning it into a modern, multifunctional sports hub while preserving its historic character.

A major highlight of the 2026 edition is the enhanced infrastructure. The tournament will feature 21 courts – 19 within the Foro Italico and two along the Lungotevere – structured around three key venues. The iconic Centre Court remains the focal point, while the former Grand Stand Arena has been completely redesigned and renamed the BNP Paribas Arena, now located within the scenic Stadio dei Marmi and expanded to host more than 7,000 spectators. Meanwhile, the SuperTennis Arena introduces a distinctive architectural concept designed to bring fans closer to the action than ever before.

This transformation is part of a broader €160 million investment project, which also includes restoring historic surfaces, replacing asphalt with natural materials, expanding green spaces and creating new areas for fitness, relaxation and study. The goal is to make the Foro Italico a year-round destination, further enhanced by improved connections with the city and the addition of a new museum pathway dedicated to Italian sport.

On the sporting side, the 2026 entry lists once again guarantee world-class competition. Leading the men’s field are Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, with the Spaniard returning as defending champion and Sinner aiming to claim his first title in Rome after finishing runner-up last year. Novak Djokovic, a six-time champion at the Foro Italico, and Alexander Zverev, a two-time winner, also headline a strong lineup. Italy will be well represented with Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi and Lorenzo Sonego all confirmed for the main draw of the ATP Masters 1000 event.

In the women’s competition, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka tops the field alongside 2023 champion Elena Rybakina and last year’s finalist Coco Gauff. Home hopes will rest on Jasmine Paolini, currently ranked No. 8 in the world and defending champion in both singles and doubles, as well as Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
