STUTTGART/WASHINGTON, April 19, 2026 (by Michael Dickens)
World No. 12 Karolina Muchova of Czechia and World No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan set up a Sunday championship showdown at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on indoor red clay in contrasting but impressive fashion during their respective semifinal matches on Saturday afternoon inside Porsche Arena.
While the No. 7 seed Muchova was pushed to the limit by World No. 7 and fourth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, needing three sets to prevail, the top seed Rybakina was all business and ended the seven-match winning streak of last week’s Linz champion Mirra Andreeva in straight sets.
Muchova defeated Svitolina, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, in two hours and 14 minutes, while Rybakina took care of the sixth seed Andreeva in an hour and 17 minutes by winning, 7-5, 6-1, for her seventh-straight win in Stuttgart going back to her 2024 championship run.

On Sunday, Muchova and Rybakina will be meeting for the fourth time, with the Czech star leading their head-to-head series 2-1. In their most recent encounter, at Brisbane last January, Muchova beat Rybakina, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, in the quarterfinal round. This will be their first meeting on clay.
“She’s really a great player, and she has really nice touch, hands,” Rybakina said of Muchova during her news conference after defeating Andreeva. “She can serve with very good placement, opening the court.
“It’s going to be an interesting match. I think my goal is always try to stay aggressive, serve well, as I did today, and we’ll see what’s going to happen. But definitely it’s the last match, and I want to give my best.”

After being a five-time semifinalist at the WTA 500-level, Muchova finally has reached the championship round in Stuttgart. It didn’t come easy – nearly two-and-one-quarter hours of punching and counter-punching with Svitolina. However, Muchova put away her 22nd victory of the year impressively to advance to her second final of the season after winning the Doha title in February.
In the final set, Muchova broke to go ahead 5-4 with a solidly-hit, down-the-line forehand winner off of Svitolina’s serve on break point. Then, she put away the victory with an ace out wide on match point to secure her second-straight Top-10 triumph – the 20th of her career and fifth of 2026. Muchova has now won 16 of her last 18 matches this season.

When it counted, Muchova delivered the right stuff to beat Svitolina and deny the Ukrainian star of a first Stuttgart final after being a semifinalist twice. Muchova struck 37 winners – four of them aces – against 32 unforced errors, controlled the net by winning 18 of 22 exchanges and converted four of seven break points. She outpointed Svitolina 90-83.
During her news conference, Muchova gave props to the crowd for its support of her. “It’s incredible to play here. The crowd is always packed, and it’s nice the way that the people support us here,” she said. “Today, yeah, very tough and physical match against Elina.
“Yeah, I’m very pleased with the way I handled myself at the end of the third set when it was 4-4 with that break, and that I was able to finish it off.”

On Sunday, Muchova will be going after the grand prize of a Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, presented in Cartagena Yellow Metallic with a classic black soft top. All week, it’s been on prominent display behind the baseline that’s always in view of the television cameras on Centre Court inside Porsche Arena.
During her on-court interview, Muchova was reminded that it seemed she never looks up at the sleek Porsche sports car behind her. Muchova quipped: “I sometimes give it a side eye!”

Rybakina playing motivated and strong tennis
Meanwhile, Rybakina has picked up where she left off in 2024, after winning her first Stuttgart title. She did not enter last year’s event due to playing Billie Jean King Cup for Kazakhstan in Australia. Now, she’s back motivated and strong – and has won three straight matches, against No. 19 Diana Shnaider and No. 25 Leylah Fernandez, and on Saturday versus World No. 9 Andreeva.
Against the 18-year-old Russian, Rybakina played sharp from the beginning of the semifinal and put away her 24th victory – tying her with Jessica Pegula for the WTA Tour lead – with her straight-set victory. It’s Rybakina’s 38th career Top-10 victory – her seventh this season – and she’s won 14 of her last 16 matches against Top-10 players.

Rybakina fired seven aces, won 83 percent (29 of 35) first-serve points, converted four of 10 break points and outpointed Andreeva 67-49 to reach her third final of the 2026 season.
“Yeah, really happy with the way I played today,” Rybakina said during her news conference. “First set was pretty close, but then in the second, I got the lead and felt even more comfortable. I was stepping in more and playing more aggressive.”

Sunday’s Stuttgart order of play
By the numbers
Karolina Muchova now owns 20 career victories over Top-10 players, including over No. 3 Coco Gauff in the quarterfinal round on Friday and No. 7 Elina Svitolina in the semifinal round.
“Quotable …”
“911, okay! This one I don’t have. That’s great motivation right on the court. Whenever you’re not focused or maybe frustrated you just need to look at the cars and set a goal and try to do the best.”
– World No. 2 and top seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, during her on-court interview, reminded of the grand prize of a brand-new Porsche to the tournament winner.
