Maja Chwalinska capped a remarkable week at the Oeiras Open 125 by lifting the WTA 125 trophy, defeating close friend Sinja Kraus 6-1, 6-3 in a one-sided final that lasted just 75 minutes.

The 24-year-old Pole delivered a composed and controlled performance to secure the biggest title of her season and the third WTA 125 trophy of her career. The victory will see her break into the Top 120 of the WTA Rankings for the first time.

After surviving a difficult opening round—where she trailed 1-4 with a double break in the final set—Chwalinska shifted into dominant mode, losing just 11 games across her final four matches of the tournament.

Her varied and intelligent game once again proved decisive in the final. While Kraus struggled physically, playing with heavy strapping on her right thigh, Chwalinska remained solid throughout, minimizing errors and maintaining relentless pressure.

“I’m happy it’s over because it was very difficult to play against my best friend,” Chwalinska admitted. “In tennis, it’s rare to have real friendships on tour. Before the match, I told her I needed a hug—I was very nervous.”

Reflecting on her performance, she added: “I was very solid and didn’t make many easy mistakes. She wasn’t at 100 per cent, but neither was I after such a demanding week. Staying consistent and never giving up made the difference.”

Chwalinska’s title run included a standout victory over top seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, setting the tone for a dominant campaign. The Oeiras triumph adds to her previous WTA 125 titles in Florianopolis (2024) and Montreux (2025), further establishing her as a rising force on the circuit.

The women’s action in Oeiras continues next week, with the Oeiras CETO Open marking its debut at WTA 125 level, while the ATP Challenger Tour returns to Jamor in May for another edition.
