The Danube Upper Austria Open powered by SKE will take place from April 26 to May 3, 2026, marking the fifth edition of the ATP Challenger tournament in Mauthausen, Austria. The anniversary event once again brings together a strong mix of international competitors and Austria’s leading tennis talents, promising an exciting week on the clay courts.

A strong focus is placed on local players, led by rising star Joel Schwaerzler, one of the most promising talents in Austrian tennis. He will be joined by Lukas Neumayer and 2022 champion Jurij Rodionov, both of whom have already proven their ability at Challenger level. Sandro Kopp and Sebastian Sorger complete the group by receiving wild cards into the main draw.

The international field is equally competitive. Former world No. 16 Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia returns with unfinished business after a narrow defeat in last year’s edition. French showman Hugo Gaston adds variety and unpredictability with his creative style, while Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki, a former junior Wimbledon champion, continues to emerge as one of the most exciting young players on tour. They are joined by familiar names such as Great Britain’s Jan Choinski and Chile’s Tomas Barrios Vera, last year’s finalist.

Tournament director Florian Leitgeb expressed optimism ahead of the anniversary edition, emphasizing the importance of giving Austrian players a platform on the ATP Challenger Tour while maintaining a strong international field.

Kohlschreiber returns to competition

A major highlight comes in the doubles competition, where former Top 20 player Philipp Kohlschreiber will return to competition via wildcard. The 42-year-old German, an eight-time ATP Tour singles champion, will partner Austrian talent Joel Schwaerzler in one of the tournament’s most anticipated pairings.

Off the court, fan engagement will once again play a central role. The popular “One Point Challenge” returns on April 30, offering fans a unique format where each match is decided by a single point played under No-Let rules. Open to both men and women, the event continues to be one of the most interactive highlights of the tournament week.
