CERVIA/STARNBERG, April 29, 2026
Thirty-five years after hosting a Challenger Series event won by Claudio Mezzadri, Cervia is set to once again stage international professional tennis. From May 17 to 23, 2026, the city will host the inaugural CAME Cup – Città di Cervia, an ATP Challenger 50 tournament played on clay courts at the Circolo Polisportiva 2000 Tennis.
Scheduled for the week immediately following the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, the event represents a significant upgrade for the local tennis scene, which in recent years had successfully organized ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments. The announcement was officially made during a press conference at the Municipal Hall, highlighting the city’s ongoing commitment to sport and community engagement.
Local officials emphasized Cervia’s strong sporting identity and its dedication to promoting tennis at all levels. The region of Emilia-Romagna continues to lead Italy in hosting international tournaments, underlining the importance of Challenger events in providing opportunities for emerging players to compete against established professionals.
Organizers from Polisportiva 2000 Tennis expressed pride in delivering an event of this scale, despite being a relatively small club. Their goal is not only to stage a high-quality tournament but also to showcase Cervia as a welcoming and vibrant destination, particularly for younger audiences who can experience professional tennis up close.
Tournament director Carlos Bernardes, a former top-level chair umpire, praised both the facilities and the atmosphere of the city. He highlighted the unique charm of more intimate venues, where spectators can feel closer to the players, creating an engaging and authentic tennis experience.
The entry list already promises a competitive field. Among the top-ranked players are Argentina’s Santiago Rodriguez Taverna and Guido Ivan Justo, alongside US-American contenders Stefan Dostanic and Mitchell Krueger, as well as Uruguay’s Franco Roncadelli. Italy will also be well represented, led by Michele Ribecai, with additional local players expected to join the main draw through direct entry, alternates, and wild cards.
Particular attention will be given to rising talents, including promising youngsters such as Moise Kouame and Ivan Ivanov, as well as potential Italian wild card recipients.
Beyond the competition itself, the tournament aims to inspire the next generation by bringing professional tennis closer to the community. For Cervia, the CAME Cup represents not just a sporting event, but a celebration of growth, ambition, and the enduring appeal of the game.
