Dayana Yastremska was crowned champion of the sixth edition of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren, concluding a memorable week at the Tennis Club Parma with victories over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Barbora Krejcikova on the final day of the WTA 125 event organized by MEF Tennis Events.

The 26-year-old from Odesa, currently ranked No. 52 in the world and a semifinalist at the 2024 Australian Open, first completed an epic semifinal win over Bouzas Maneiro, prevailing 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 7-6(5) after three hours and 23 minutes. Yastremska let six match points slip away across two separate games in the second set before finally sealing victory in a dramatic deciding-set tiebreak.

Only a few hours later, the Ukrainian returned to the Centre Court for the championship match against former world No. 2 and two-time Grand Slam singles champion Krejcikova. Hampered by a lingering thigh problem, the Czech struggled to match Yastremska’s intensity as the Ukrainian controlled the final from start to finish, claiming the title with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory.

“With this title, I gave myself an extraordinary birthday present,” Yastremska said after lifting the trophy. “On Friday I went to sleep at one in the morning, but I still managed the double challenge well. I experienced so many emotions this week. Winning two matches so close together was difficult, but I prepared very well with my team.”

She also expressed sympathy for her opponent while reflecting on her own performance.

“I’m sorry about Krejcikova’s injury. From my side, I did my best and I’m happy to have lifted the trophy.”

Awarded a wild card into the draw, Yastremska completed what she described as a dream week in Parma, earning her first singles title since 2023.

“Coming to Parma was the right choice,” she added. “I really enjoyed the city and the courts here. I felt good from the very first day and I think I deserved the success.”

The Ukrainian also praised former Grand Slam champion Pam Shriver, who currently works with her as a mental coach.

“My mental coach Pam Shriver is an amazing person. She has incredible experience and always knows what to say to make me feel comfortable.”

Alongside the singles final, the doubles title was claimed by Taiwanese sisters I-Hsuan Cho and Yi-Tsen Cho, who defeated Italians Marta Lombardini and Federica Urgesi 6-2, 6-2. Lombardini and Urgesi became the first Italian pair ever to reach the doubles final in the history of the tournament.

The successful conclusion of the event marked another milestone for MEF Tennis Events, which has continued to establish Parma as one of the leading tournaments on the WTA 125 circuit.

“There is always great enthusiasm in Parma,” said MEF Tennis Events CEO Marcello Marchesini. “The club is wonderful and we always receive an extraordinary welcome. At our tournaments, the players are always smiling. It’s great to hear people talk about the family atmosphere — we do everything possible to make players feel at home and we aim to improve year after year.”

With the Parma Ladies Open now completed, MEF Tennis Events is already turning its attention to the ATP Challenger event in Perugia, scheduled from May 31 to June 7, where three Top 100 players are expected to compete.

“Thanks to our excellent relationship with the ATP Challenger Tour leadership, we obtained a one-week adjustment in the calendar compared to previous years,” Marchesini explained. “We are confident we can write another beautiful chapter in our history.”
