The Italian wave continued at the CAME Cup – Città di Cervia, the ATP Challenger 50 tournament being played on the clay courts of the Circolo Polisportiva 2000 Tennis in Cervia. Five Italian players advanced to the quarterfinals, with four of them set to face each other in two all-Italian clashes for a place in the semifinals.

The standout match of the day on Centre Court delivered drama and high-quality tennis as Enrico Dalla Valle outlasted 18-year-old wild card Jacopo Vasami 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(8) after more than three hours of play in front of a packed crowd.

Dalla Valle, currently ranked No. 488 in the world but a former World No. 242, made a strong start by dictating rallies and taking the opening set 6-2. Vasami, winner of the prestigious Trofeo Bonfiglio junior event last year, responded early in the second set by breaking serve for a 2-0 lead before immediately giving the break back. The set eventually went to a tie-break, where the left-handed Roman forced a decider.

The final set remained evenly balanced throughout. Dalla Valle saved two break points in the opening game, while Vasami had to fend off pressure himself shortly after. A dramatic deciding tie-break saw momentum swing repeatedly. Vasami held two match points, while Dalla Valle missed one of his own before finally sealing victory when the teenager missed a forehand after three hours and 15 minutes.

“It was a really tough match and I think we both played very well,” Dalla Valle said afterwards. “It came down to just a few points. I’m happy to beat a player with the qualities Jacopo has, especially because I feel physically very good at the moment. Playing close to home in front of family and friends gives me extra motivation.”

Dalla Valle will now meet fellow qualifier Tommaso Compagnucci in the quarterfinals after the 26-year-old from Macerata produced the upset of the day, dismantling second seed Guido Ivan Justo of Argentina 6-0, 6-2.

In the top half of the draw, Carlo Alberto Caniato also advanced after winning an entertaining all-Italian battle against Lorenzo Carboni 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4. The 20-year-old from Ferrara recovered from an early deficit in the opening set before dominating the tie-break. Carboni responded strongly in the second set, but Caniato regained control in the decider, saving five break points in a crucial eighth game before closing out the match after two hours and 20 minutes.

Caniato will now face either top seed Andrea Guerrieri or Gabriele Piraino in another Italian quarterfinal showdown.

Juan Cruz Martin Manzano also booked his place in the last eight. The 21-year-old Italian-Argentine wild card came from behind to defeat seventh seed Michele Ribecai5-7, 6-3, 6-4 and will next take on Spain’s Max Alcala Gurri, who cruised past third seed Stefan Dostanic 6-2, 6-4.
