LJUBLJANA/STARNBERG, June 8, 2026
The ITF World Tennis Tour M15 BTC Slovan Ljubljana concluded at the Kodeljevo Sports Park with Switzerland’s Dylan Dietrich crowned champion after defeating home favorite Jan Kupcic in the singles final.
Kupcic, one of four Slovenians to reach the quarterfinals, produced an excellent week on home soil. After advancing through the draw and defeating fellow Slovenian Aljaz Jeran in the semifinals, he booked his place in the championship match against Dietrich.
The 25-year-old Slovenian started the final strongly by taking the opening set, but the Swiss gradually took control of the contest, winning the next two sets to complete the comeback and secure the title.
For Kupcic, the ITF World Tennis Tour tournament marked another important step in his return from injury and highlighted his growing form on the international circuit.
“First of all, I would like to thank the organizers and the Tennis Association of Slovenia for staging such an excellent tournament, as well as everyone who ensured outstanding playing conditions throughout the week,” said Kupcic. “A special thank you goes to national team captain Grega Zemlja for awarding me a wildcard into the main draw, which gave me this opportunity and helped me achieve this result.
“I’m happy that I was able to make the most of the chance and reach the final. I played several high-quality and demanding matches in Ljubljana, which gave me important confirmation that my work is paying off. Of course, I wanted to take the final step as well, but I came up a little short in the final. Nevertheless, it was a very positive week that gives me additional motivation for future tournaments and further improvement. I would also like to thank my team and everyone who supported me throughout the week.”
Tournament Director Igor Roric praised both the level of competition and the strong Slovenian participation.
“A total of 19 Slovenian players competed in the tournament,” Roric said. “The spectators enjoyed many high-quality matches and excellent performances. In doubles, Mueller and Schell claimed the title by defeating the Slovenian team of Hribar and Mohar in the final. In singles, Jan Kupcic reached the final, while Dylan Dietrich won the title.
“Several young players from TD Slovan were also given the opportunity to compete and gained valuable international experience that will help them continue their tennis development. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the successful organization of the tournament. Your support, cooperation and sporting spirit ensured that the event was played in an excellent competitive atmosphere.”
