STUTTGART/STARNBERG, June 10, 2026
Persistent rain severely limited play on Wednesday at the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, with only three singles matches completed on Centre Court
Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann suffered a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-2 defeat to Italy’s Mattia Bellucci. Hanfmann was left to rue missed opportunities in the opening set, where he failed to convert six break points before losing serve at 5-6.
The 34-year-old world No. 59 showed resilience in the second set, saving two match points on serve before forcing a tiebreak, which he won 7-4. However, Bellucci regained control in the deciding set, racing to a 4-1 lead with two breaks of serve. Hanfmann received treatment on his back during a changeover but was unable to mount a comeback.
“Being a left-hander, he’s a very uncomfortable opponent,” Hanfmann said afterwards. “He hits a very flat backhand, is extremely athletic and constantly presents you with new challenges. My back has been a bit vulnerable, but that wasn’t the reason for the loss. In the end, I was missing one or two percent, and at this level that makes a big difference.”
World No. 77 Jan-Lennard Struff also fell short of a place in the quarterfinals, losing 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2 to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, the world No. 11.
The opening set remained on serve throughout before Bublik dominated the tiebreak. Struff responded strongly in the second set, breaking early for a 2-0 lead and maintaining the advantage to level the match. The deciding set, however, swung back in Bublik’s favour as the Kazakh secured an early break and never looked back, sealing victory after one hour and 43 minutes.

“The first set was very close, although I felt he was the better player overall,” Struff reflected. “I played really well in the second set, but losing my first service game in the third set simply cannot happen. From that moment on, he was completely in the zone and gave me nothing.”
Bublik will now face France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the quarterfinals after the powerful Frenchman defeated Belgian qualifier Gauthier Onclin 7-6(1), 6-2.
Attention now turns to a packed Thursday schedule on Centre Court. Play begins at 11:00 a.m. with Frances Tiafoe taking on Australia’s Rinky Hijikata. Nick Kyrgios will then face Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro. Defending champion Taylor Fritz is scheduled to begin his title defence against Spanish youngster Martin Landaluce no earlier than 3:00 p.m., before top seed Ben Shelton meets fellow US-American Marcos Giron in the final match of the day, not before 5:00 p.m.
