Anticipation is continuing to build ahead of the 33rd edition of the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN, with Alexander Zverev already arriving in Halle/Westphalia on Wednesday evening.

Germany’s top-ranked player landed at Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport before being transported to the tournament venue, where Tournament Director Ralf Weber and Sven Wortmann, representing title sponsor Wortmann AG, welcomed him with a specially crafted Eiffel Tower cake. The gesture celebrated Zverev’s memorable victory at the French Open last Sunday, where the 29-year-old finally captured his long-awaited first Grand Slam title.

As a result, Zverev will compete in Halle for the first time as a reigning major champion. “This is my twelfth time coming to Halle. Of course, my goal now is to win the tournament here for the first time as well,” said Zverev, who arrived wearing a jersey of the German national football team.

Ralf Weber praised the early arrival of Germany’s biggest tennis star. “The fact that Alexander has come four days before the start of the tournament shows how comfortable he feels here and how ambitious he is. He wants to prepare in the best possible way and finally win the title in Halle. That is a strong signal and a great compliment to our event.”

Zverev has come close to lifting the trophy before. He reached the final twice, losing to Florian Mayer in 2016 and to Roger Federer in 2017. Over the past three years, he has also consistently reached the semi-finals, establishing himself as one of the tournament’s leading contenders.

“Alexander has become one of the defining faces of our tournament over the years,” said Sven Wortmann, Managing Partner of Wortmann AG. “His performances both on and off the court inspire the fans. To welcome him back after his French Open triumph makes this year particularly special.”

The excitement is equally evident among tennis fans. Ticket demand remains exceptionally strong, with only a limited number of tickets still available for Monday’s opening day at the heristo arena. Many spectators are also hoping to catch a glimpse of Germany’s No. 1 during the qualifying weekend.

On Sunday at 2:00 p.m., Zverev will be honoured on Centre Court for his French Open victory. Later in the afternoon, he will participate in an autograph session with fans. As is tradition, admission to the qualifying weekend on Saturday and Sunday is free, giving spectators the opportunity to watch international stars and rising talents up close while welcoming the new Roland Garros champion to Halle.

Zverev’s appearance also places him in exclusive company. Remarkably, this will be only the fifth time that the reigning French Open champion has competed in Halle. Previous examples include Carlos Moya in 1998, Yevgeny Kafelnikov in 1996, and Rafael Nadal in 2006, 2012 and 2014.

Now, as one of the world’s leading players and the newly crowned French Open champion, Alexander Zverev headlines a world-class field at the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. The stage is set for a memorable week of grass-court tennis—and perhaps, at long last, Zverev’s first title in Halle.
