The third day of Wimbledon featured a mix of dominant performances and dramatic battles as several title contenders secured their places in the last 32.
Defending men’s champion Jannik Sinner continued his title defence in convincing fashion, defeating Portugal’s Nuno Borges 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach the third round.
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic also progressed without dropping a set, overcoming Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to keep his pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title firmly on track.
Third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced following a 7-6(2), 6-3, 7-5 win over Croatian youngster Dino Prizmic, while Daniil Medvedev and rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca also booked their spots in the third round. French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli completed his delayed first-round match against Mariano Navone, which had been suspended on Tuesday, to join the last 64.
In the women’s draw, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and former champion Naomi Osaka both recorded straight-set victories to secure places in the third round.
Coco Gauff faced a much tougher challenge, needing a deciding-set tie-break to overcome Solana Sierra and continue her campaign.
The biggest upset of the day came when reigning French Open champion Mirra Andreeva was eliminated by Barbora Krejcikova, ending her Wimbledon run in the second round.
There was also an emotional farewell for the home crowd as Britain’s Dan Evans brought his professional career to a close following a men’s doubles defeat alongside fellow Briton Henry Searle.
