LONDON, July 6, 2026
Day 8 at Wimbledon delivered a memorable moment for British tennis as Arthur Fery produced the biggest victory of his career to reach the quarterfinals at the All England Club.
Ranked No. 114 in the world at the start of the tournament, Fery defeated former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov in a dramatic five-set thriller. With the victory, he became only the sixth British man in the Open Era to reach the quarterfinals at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
In the men’s draw, Flavio Cobolli, the recent French Open finalist, continued his impressive run by defeating fifth seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets to secure a place in the last eight.
The women’s competition also saw several players advance to the quarterfinals. Former Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini ended the remarkable run of Alexandra Eala, booking her spot in the final eight. Marta Kostyuk, Linda Noskova and Elise Mertens also recorded victories to continue their campaigns.
In doubles, defending champions Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool moved into the men’s doubles quarterfinals as they continued their title defence. However, there was disappointment for British hopes elsewhere, with Neal Skupski and his American partner Christian Harrison eliminated from the competition.
