Marc-Andrea Huesler‘s professional tennis career came to an end just one match short of a dream farewell, as the Swiss fell to Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-4, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final of the Zug Open.

Nine days after announcing that the ATP Challenger event on home soil would be the final tournament of his career, the 30-year-old Swiss was unable to cap his journey with one last title. Seyboth Wild proved the stronger player throughout the championship match, breaking Huesler’s serve four times while allowing the former world No. 47 to convert just one of his eight break-point opportunities.

Despite the defeat, Huesler leaves the professional tour with an impressive résumé. The left-hander won seven ATP Challenger singles titles, the last of which came in Morelos, Mexico, in April 2025. His career highlight arrived in October 2022, when he battled through qualifying to capture the ATP 250 title in Sofia, earning the biggest trophy of his career.

Huesler reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 47 in February 2023 and also enjoyed success in doubles, winning the ATP Tour title in Gstaad alongside fellow Swiss Dominic Stricker in 2021.

For Seyboth Wild, the victory in Zug marks another significant milestone as the Brazilian claimed his seventh ATP Challenger career crown, his second of the season following his triumph on home soil in Piracicaba in late June.

“I’m very happy with my victory in Zug,” the 26-year-old said. “It was a great week, and I feel as good as I have in a long time. At the same time, I’d also like to congratulate Marc-Andrea on his outstanding career.”

Seyboth Wild earned €30,460 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.
