Rocha had already impressed throughout the week. The 22-year-old world No. 127 opened his home campaign with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Romanian Cezar Cretu.
He then produced a dominant performance against Croatia’s Mili Poljicak, winning 6-2, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals.
There, Rocha faced Denmark’s August Holmgren. The Porto native continued his run with another strong performance, defeating the Dane 6-3, 7-6(7) in a closely contested second set.
His path to the final then became unusual. Rocha was scheduled to face Switzerland’s Jerome Kym in the semi-finals, but Kym was unable to play due to a shoulder injury and Rocha advanced to the championship match by walkover.
The victory earns Rocha 125 ATP Ranking points and €30,460 in prize money. The Eupago Porto Open was an ATP Challenger 125 event with a total prize purse of €203,900.
