Second seed Taro Daniel picked up his first ATP Challenger Tour title of the year, winning the €42,500 Acqua Dolomia Tennis Cup in Cordenons, held at the Eurosporting venue. The 23-year-old Japanese defeated fourth seed Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain, 6-3, 6-4 in the final, which started with a two hour delay due to bad weather.
Both players are coached by José Altur and it was Daniel with the more solid performance. The world number 120 won 78% of his first service points and capitalized on three of his six break point opportunities. Daniel eventually prevailed in 82 minutes and clinched his fourth Challenger career title. Gimeno-Traver was competing in his first Challenger final since winning in February 2015 in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

On Saturday, Germany’s André Begemann and Belarussian Aliaksandr Bury took the doubles title, winning 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 over the Czech combination of Roman Jevavy and Zdenek Kolar. The encounter lasted one hour and 36 minutes.
