BURNIE, February 4, 2017

Omar Jasika claimed his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the all-Australian final of the $75,000 Caterpillar Burnie International against Blake Mott 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The 19-year-old from Melbourne, who lost to David Ferrer in the opening round at his home Grand Slam tournament, didn’t lose his serve, converting all of his four break points to secure victory in exactly one hour of play.

Jasika probably gained some extra confidence from a very special practice session he could enjoy ahead of the final.

The leftie, who finished runner-up at the ATP Challenger in Happy Valley to start the new season, takes away $10,800 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points and is projected to rise more than 300 spots to the Top 300 next week.

Earlier the day, Brydan Klein from Great Britain and local favourite Dane Propoggia defeated the Australian combination of Steven de Waard and Luke Saville 6-3, 6-4 to claim the doubles trophies. The encounter lasted 65 minutes.
