NÜRNBERG, May 19, 2017
Organizers of the Nürnberger Versicherungscup announced Friday that three young German players were awarded a wild card into the main draw of the $226,750 WTA International event held at the venue of the 1.Fc Nürnberg next week.
Tatjana Maria, Katharina Hobgarski and Katharina Gerlach will compete in the 5th edition of the tournament. Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia and German Mona Barthel were forced to pull out.
2014 champion Eugenie Bouchard arrived earlier this week in Nürnberg. The 23-year-old Canadian is in good shape, reaching the quarterfinals at the WTA Premier event in Madrid last week and wants to enjoy another successful week in Germany.

“Of course I have great memories from this tournament, as I didn’t lose a match here three years ago,” Bouchard told in her press conference on Thursday. Back then, the current World No. 52 beat Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic to capture her maiden title on the WTA Tour. Yet, to lift the trophy again will be a tough task, as the Montreal native will not be among the seeded players this year.
Top favourite will be defending champion Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands. Qualification starts Saturday with Kateryna Bondarenko from the Ukraine being the top seed.
