HEILBRONN, May 19, 2017
Inclement weather interrupted Friday’s quarterfinals at the €64,000 NECKARCUP, as heavy rain in Heilbronn meant only one match was able to reach a conclusion.
In an encounter between two in-form-players, Guido Pella, who finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the BMW Open in Munich two weeks ago, eased past Roma Garden Challenger champion Marco Cecchinato, winning 6-2, 6-2. The match lasted only 58 minutes.
The 27-year-old Argentine dominated his opponent and didn’t face a single break point, converting four of his own to secure victory in just under one hour of play.
Pella awaits the winner of the match between Serbian qualifier Filip Krajinovic and Marton Fucsovics from Hungary. The encounter on Court 1 was suspended at 4-4 and will resume on Saturday morning at 11 am local time.
Fourth seed Norbert Gombos of Slovakia will take on the tournament’s number eight Casper Ruud from Norway and Italian Lorenzo Giustino will face seventh favourite Andrej Martin from Slovakia for the last two spots in the stage of the final four.
