Top Seeds Qualify For Roland Garros Main Draw

PARIS, May 26, 2017

The qualifying into this year’s French Open at Roland Garros concluded on Friday with 12 women and the remaining eight man advancing to the main draw.

Men’s top seed Marius Copil battled past Peter Gojowczyk from Germany, winning 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. The 26-year-old from Romania won 72 per cent of his first service point and broke serve three times to prevail in two hours and 35 minutes.

Copil, who will play against Albert Ramos-Vinolas from Spain in his first round match, will be joined by Arthur de Greef from Belgium, Taro Daniel of Japan, Slovakian Jozef Kovalik, local favourite Maxime Hamou, Santiago Giraldo from Colombia, Marco Trungelliti of Argentina as well as US-American Bjorn Fratangelo.

Women’s top seed and former Roland Garros runner-up Sara Errani also prevailed. The World No. 91 of Italy eased past Nicole Gibbs from the Unitd States, winning 6-3, 6-0 in one hour and 22 minutes. Errani set a first round clash with Misaki Doi of Japan.

Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic, Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, Richel Hogenkamp from the Netherlands, Romanian Ana Bogdan, Quirine Lemoine of France, Petra Martic from Croatia, Francoise Abanda from Canada, Belgian Alison van Uytvanck, Kateryna Kozlova from the Ukraine and US-American Bethanie Mattek-Sands also advanced to the main draw.
