Kiki Bertens successfully defended her title at the fifth edition of the WTA Nürnberger Versicherungscup. The top seed from Belgium outclassed Czech qualifier Barbora Krejcikova, winning 6-2, 6-1 in Sunday’s final.
Bertens fired seven aces, saved both break points she faced, converting four of her own to prevail in only 56 minutes.

“It was great to be back here in Nürnberg. It wasn’t easy today against Barbora, who played an outstanding week of tennis. I am very proud,” Bertens was happy afterwards and added: “I will be back here next year, as it seems that I cannot lose in Nürnberg.”
In her last two appearances in Franconia, the 25-year-old Dutchwoman lost a total of one set in 12 matches. By lifting her third WTA career trophy, Bertens takes away €34,677 in prize money as well as 280 WTA ranking points.
Melichar And Smith Take Doubles Title
Earlier in the day, Nicole Melichar from the United States and Anna Smith of Great Britain rallied past Kirsten Flipkens from Belgium and Johanna Larsson of Sweden, winning 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 to clinch the doubles crown. The encounter lasted one hour and 21 minutes.
