The first four players advanced on Wednesday to the quarterfinals at the €43,000 Internazionali Di Tennis Citta Di Vicenza held at the Circolo Tennis Palladio 98 in Vicenza.
Matteo Berrettini knocked out one of the last two seeded players standing in the singles main draw with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the tournament’s number five Maximilian Marterer from Germany. The wild card entry from Italy sent down eight aces, didn’t face a break point, converting three of his own to advance in only 58 minutes.
Berrettini will next take on Jan Satral. The 26-year-old from the Czech Republic defeated Italian wild card Gianluca Mager 6-4, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
Daniel Munoz de la Nava delivered a convincing performance, outplaying German qualifier Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-3, 6-4. The Spanish veteran won 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail in one hour and 38 minutes.
Munoz de la Nava will next face Lorenzo Giustino, who emerged victorious from the all-Italian-affair with Salvatore Caruso. The World No. 179 from Naples broke serve five times to finish the encounter in one hour and seven minuts.
Seventh favourite Laslo Djere from Serbia will headline Thursday’s second round action, playing Christian Garin of Chile for a spot in the stage of the final eight.
