Zapata Miralles Prevails In Kaltenkirchen

Bernabé Zapata Miralles clinched the ITF Pro Circuit title of second edition of the $15,000 ITF Future Nord held at the Tennis Club Schirnau in Kaltenkirchen. The top seed from Spain edged past Nik Razborsek of Slovenia 6-4, 7-5 in Sunday’s final.

Zapata Miralles rallied back from a 0-3 deficit in the second set, breaking serve six times to secure victory in one hour and 26 minutes. The World No. 389 lifted his sixth ITF Pro Circuit career trophy, his first of the season. Zapta Miralles earned $1,944 in prize money as well as 12 ATP ranking points.

In the $15,000 women’s competition, Katharina Gerlach of Germany took the title. The second seed edged past the tournament’s number five Magali Kempen from Belgium, winning 6-4, 7-6.

Gerlach won 72 per cent of her first service points and capitalized on six of her 12 break point chances to prevail in one hour and 46 minutes. The 19-year-old took her second career title, following her triumph in Ricany last year.
