Matteo Berrettini of Itlay claimed his maiden ATP Challenger title at the €64,000 San Benedetto Tennis Cup on Sunday. The 21-year-old did not drop a set all week, defeating fourth seed Laslo Djere of Serbia 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
Berrettini has moved into the Top 200 for the first time, up 56 spots to a career-high World No. 173 and is the sixth different Italian winner in the tournament’s 13-year history.
Spaniards Win Claim Doubles Title
On Saturday, Spanish duo of Carlos Taberner, who also advanced to the semis in the singles competition, and Pol Toledo Bague clinched their maiden doubles title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the final 7-5, 6-4 against Flavio Cipolla from Italy and Romanian Adrian Ungur. The encounter lasted one hour and 15 minutes.
